Step 1: Receive Letter from Landowners |
Action: A potential project is initiated when we receive a letter signed by at least two landowners from the proposed project site asking for our assistance in developing a timber harvesting enterprise. We don't advertise our services, but rely primarily on word of mouth.

Rationale: In PNG, most surface land and resource rights are owned by traditional clans. Projects are only set up when there is interest from the landowners. The letter provides documentation that they approached us - that this was their idea and not ours.
Examples: We accept letters in either English or Tok Pisin and letters that are handwritten or ones that are typed - indeed we prefer handwritten ones as they are more likely to represent the community.
