Oak Forests in the Himalayan Mountains
The flanks of the rugged mountains of the Garhwal district in India are covered by a rich belt of oak forest - the remanents of a mighty forest that used to stretch across the Himalaya mountains. This forest is home to the endangered snow leopard, black bear, bharal deer and musk deer. However, the rich biodiversity of the region is threatened by over-grazing and excessive harvesting of non-timber forest products as well as unsustainable fuel and fodder collection.

So what's being done about these problems?
