BSP's Africa & Madagascar Program
Central African Regional Program for the Environment
(CARPE)
Providing critical information and capacity strengthening
for forest management in the Congo Basin.
CARPE is a long-term initiative to address the issues of deforestation
and biodiversity loss in the Congo Basin forests. It engages NGOs, research and educational organizations,
private-sector consultants, and government agencies in evaluating threats
to forest integrity in the Congo Basin and identifying opportunities to
manage the region's vast forests sustainably for the benefit of the
region and the world.
CARPE works in five main areas:
- Logging policies and practices.
- Protected areas in a lived-in landscape.
- Feasibility of household-level interventions.
- Promotion of effective environmental governance.
- Monitoring of forest resources.
CARPE covers Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic
of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, and São
Tomé e Principé. It continues after BSP close out.
