What You Can Do

Each of us is responsible for carbon pollution produced from the energy we use to light and heat our homes, travel and power appliances. That means choices you make can play an important role in addressing global warming.

Here are 8 easy ways to help tackle climate change:

  • Contact your representative

Urge your members of Congress and local representatives to cut carbon pollution and to prepare for the impacts of climate change.

  • Know your carbon footprint

The first step to reducing your carbon footprint is to know how big it is and what is causing it. Use EPA’s Household Emissions Calculator to find out.

  • Reduce energy use at home and on the road

Simple steps like switching to fluorescent bulbs for lighting, improving your home’s insulation and riding your bike, walking or taking public transit can go a long way to reducing your footprint. Conserving water, planting shade trees and properly sealing your home also can help you prepare for extreme weather events like heat waves, droughts, and floods.

  • Purchase energy efficient products.

Use a service like TopTen to pick from the most energy-efficient consumer products on the market in a wide range of categories from refrigerators to laptops. On average, these products use half the energy of a standard model.

  • Switch to renewable energy

Did you know solar panels and wind turbines produce essentially no carbon pollution? Consider installing solar panels on your roof, or ask your electricity provider if they have options for you to buy renewable energy power “off the grid.”

  • Join the movement

Make your voice heard by joining the global movement of Earth Hour, urging the world to work together to combat climate change and create a better future for our planet.

  • Tell Your City to Prepare

Cities are facing increasingly extreme weather. Urge your mayor to prepare as part of WWF’s Earth Hour City Challenge. Read More

  • Help WWF protect wildlife and people

WWF works across the globe to help protect wildlife from threats like climate change, habitat destruction and wildlife trafficking. To support these conservation efforts, you can symbolically adopt a polar bear today.

  • Adopt a Polar Bear

Make a symbolic polar bear adoption to help save some of the world's most endangered animals from extinction and support WWF’s conservation efforts.

  • Get Involved in the City Challenge

Select your state on the map and then send a letter to your city leaders telling them to prepare for climate change.

"Our political system in America is a bit like an ocean liner…neither is good at sudden changes in direction. But there are moments in time when we must act quickly and decisively. If we are to stop the climate crisis, that time is now."
