Nissan-WWF Environmental Leadership Program

The Nissan-WWF Environmental Leadership Program will not run in 2008

Recognizing that the future of the planet lies in the hands of talented and motivated students in science, engineering, business, public policy and other fields, Nissan North America and World Wildlife Fund have formed a partnership to empower young leaders on college campuses to become effective advocates for the environment. The Nissan-WWF Environmental Leadership Program provides tomorrow's leaders with opportunities to learn about the most pressing issues facing the global environment; meet with scientists, policy makers, and business leaders addressing these issues; develop leadership skills; receive hands-on experience in scientific field research; and build a network of peers from around the country in a variety of academic disciplines.

Supporting the Future of Nature: the Nissan-WWF Partnership
In addition to investing in the future of bright, young leaders, through this annual $1 million partnership, Nissan North America is also providing support for WWF's conservation efforts in its priority places. Funds for WWF's US Southeast Rivers and Streams program has enabled WWF to provide small grants to local NGOs working to save freshwater resources in the Southeastern United States, including the Harpeth River which runs along Nissan North America's new Tennessee headquarters. With funds from the Nissan partnership, WWF Brazil conducted research in the Rio Negro region of the Amazon to make the case to the government for a newly proposed protected area. A donation to the Southern African Wildlife College, managed by WWF South Africa, enabled WWF to award seven Nissan-Train Scholarships to African conservationists to advance their training. With this innovative partnership, together Nissan North America and WWF are supporting the future of nature.
