Clown fish are native to wide ranges of warm waters within the Pacific and Indian Oceans. These colorful fish are hatched as immature, and based on their environment, they can remain immature, develop into a male, or develop into a female. Clown fish live in a mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones; the fish have a protective mucous coating that makes them immune to the stinging tentacles. Clown fish feed on the debris generated by their venomous hosts. Clown fish are vulnerable to toxins and pollution, and face the additional risk of being captured for aquarium trade.
