Giant Anteater facts:
Found in the swamps, forests and grasslands of Central and South America, giant anteaters use their sharp claws to open tree trunks and insect colonies to expose ants, termites and soft-bodied grubs. Although they are efficient diggers, they prefer to sleep in abandoned burrows rather than building their own. Their tongues move very quickly—150 times per minute. These solitary mammals are at risk from habitat loss.
