Adopt a Golden Lion Tamarin

Golden Lion Tamarin facts:

Found in the Brazilian lowland Atlantic Forest in the state of Rio de Janeiro, golden lion tamarins live in small family groups in the midlevel of the tree canopy. The golden lion tamarin is omnivorous and eats fruits, vegetables, small birds, lizards, snails, insects and spiders. Due to habitat loss and past capture for pet trade, the species is one of the most endangered primates in the world. The wild population in the early 80’s was estimated at only 200 individuals, but due to a captive breeding program and reintroduction into the wild, combined with a program to protect and restore habitat, the golden lion tamarin population has increased to 1,500.
