Hands touching soil in a field. Earth Overshoot Day acknowledges the day that we've used up all of the natural resources the earth can produce in 1 year.

Overshoot Day

In less than eight months, we used more natural resources than the planet is able to produce in a 12 month period. For the remainder of 2014, we will be living on resources borrowed from future generations.

This year—Earth Overshoot Day—the approximate date in which we have overdrawn on nature's budget—fell on August 19. Small actions (even a tweet!) make a big difference and all of us play an important role in creating a world where we live within our limits.
