Disney's Friends for Change
Disney’s Friends for Change is an initiative created in 2009 to inspire kids and families to join together and make a positive impact on their world. The program began with a focus on helping the planet and all its inhabitants through actions such as volunteering. Leveraging Disney’s star power and brand image, Friends for Change provides helpful information and tools to encourage kids to make small changes that can add up to big impact for the planet. WWF has participated in several Friends for Change promotions including most recently a promotion in summer of 2011, when over 30 Disney Channel and Disney XD stars from around the globe competed on TV in "Disney Friends for Change Games", a series of fun eco-inspired physical challenges. Four teams played on behalf of an environmental charity in television challenges which drove kids to vote online for their favorite team, pledge their own conservation commitment and make a difference to help the planet. “Team Red” represented WWF and won 1st place in the physical challenge and was also the fan favorite in two of the three televised country markets – fan favorite because WWF received the most number of kids votes in that country market. The games raised $425,000 for WWF’s global conservation efforts. In total, Disney has donated $575,000 to WWF through the Disney Friends for Change initiative.
