WWF: Information and Integration Key for US to Tackle Black Market Seafood

In response to today’s public comments on the Presidential Task Force on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and Seafood Fraud, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from Michele Kuruc, acting senior vice president of marine conservation:

“Today, we heard time and time again that the existing system needs to change if we’re going to clean up the U.S. seafood supply chain and protect American consumers. This Task Force process opens the door to making this a reality.

“In the end, it’s critical that the Task Force provides the President with meaningful, long-lasting solutions so that he can ensure all of our seafood is legally caught and fully traceable. The tools already exist, but they must be integrated into a single, efficient system. Our oceans and those who depend on them cannot afford to wait.”
