WWF Statement: Hong Kong Announces Destruction of Seized Elephant Ivory

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) today released the following statement from Leigh Henry, Senior Policy Advisor, Species Conservation & Advocacy, WWF, in response to Hong Kong’s announcement that it expects to start the incineration of 28 tons of seized elephant ivory in the first half of this year:

“Hong Kong’s decision to destroy its stockpile of seized elephant ivory is a remarkable show of determination and momentum to crack down on wildlife trafficking. Recently, we’ve seen the U.S. and China take a stand and destroy their stockpiles of seized elephant ivory, and Hong Kong is continuing the charge. WWF encourages countries globally to implement zero tolerance policies to address this international problem and work together to stop wildlife crime.”
