Extraordinary Tigers for Tigers Challenge!

$7,446 raised so far!
Auburn in the lead!
© Martin Harvey
Clemson University, the University of Missouri and Auburn University have joined forces to help support WWF and its work on protecting the endangered tiger, one of the most magnificent and threatened species on the planet. The tiger mascot schools will compete to raise $75,000 to help end the illegal tiger trade in China and the Eastern Himalayas. In 1993 China put a long awaited ban on trading tiger bones, flesh and skins. However, a sickening new enterprise began in its place: tiger farms, where over 4,000 tigers are currently being bred for their body parts.

Today, China is pushing to repeal the ban, to open up the market for farm-bred tiger parts. A revitalized illegal trade market will also increase poaching, threatening dwindling populations of wild tigers in Asia. TRAFFIC, the world's largest wildlife trade monitoring network is leading a global coalition to put pressure on China. With the 2008 Olympics coming to Beijing, we have the perfect opportunity to turn the spotlight on the tiger trade. Your donation will help set up an enforcement network in priority places such as the Eastern Himalayas and the Mekong to keep tigers in the wild and off the market.

| AU-T4T has been part of the AU Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology since their start in Fall 2006. AU-SCB became an official student organization in Fall 2007. To raise conservation awareness, AU-T4T is developing education programs for Auburn schools and on campus activities. Fundraising activities include AU-T4T tailgate booths, Tiger Days at local businesses, and selling t-shirts and posters. AU-T4T has grown substantially in its short time with participation in tailgates, a photo shoot with mascot Aubie, front page local press coverage and is receiving support from the College of Science and Mathematics to grow stronger within the university and the community. | The Clemson family has a rock solid tradition of supporting our Tigers on the Field. Likewise, we don't want an extinct mascot. Our goal is to educate the public while raising funds to stop tiger poaching and getting students from all majors directly involved in making the communities that live around the Tiger sustainable. Eventually we plan on selling as many "Clemson vs. Extinction" donation tickets as Clemson sells for a home football game. As Clemson moves back to being kings of the ACC we can proudly know we are helping to ensure that our mascot will remain the true KING OF THE JUNGLE. | Mizzou Tigers for Tigers is grounded in the irony that while we are surrounded by great pride for Mizzou Tigers, wild tigers are declining rapidly. Our program furthers the persistence of wild tigers through outreach, fundraising, education, and research. Our student chapter raises awareness and funds to aid wild tiger conservation programs while giving students a chance to experience the challenges faced by small conservation groups tackling global issues. We also develop research, educational, and training opportunities for students and researchers. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni work together to ensure there will be wild tigers as long as there are Mizzou Tigers. Visit us at TIGERS.MISSOURI.EDU. |
