Global Conference on Sustainable Beef
Multi-stakeholder forum to share better management practices & identify key environmental impacts from production

On November 1-3, 2010, WWF will partner with the global beef industry and sustainability leaders to facilitate and host a Global Conference on Sustainable Beef. Hosted in Denver, Colorado, U.S. the event will bring together supply chain managers, business leaders, practitioners, experts, innovators, and policy-makers from across the industry to share on-the-ground better management practices of sustainable beef production and build consensus around the key global environmental challenges.
The conference will provide the venue to present new and current research, and share case studies as the foundation for sustainable beef work plans. The meeting will focus on the key production impacts, where participants will be invited into the dialogue to discuss issues and highlight opportunities, addressing questions such as 'how and under what conditions can beef production be sustainable?'.
The proposed agenda for the conference is:
- Science and Research - November 1st (half day)
Present research and case studies by subject experts, to assist identification of the top sustainability production challenges and opportunities. - Better Management Practices - November 2nd
Review of better management practices for sustainable beef production, where participants will share experiences, practice and operations, addressing hurdles and solutions along the way. - Dialogue - November 3rd (half day)
Facilitated dialogue to build consensus around the key environmental impacts of beef production and identify and agree on next steps for sustainable beef work plans.
Key topics proposed for discussion include:
- Carbon, including greenhouse gases and carbon sequestration
- Land use, habitat and biodiversity
- Water quality and usage
- Production efficiencies such as feed conversion

The conference provides the architecture for the beef industry to tackle local to global impacts through dialogue, research and on-the-ground case studies, addressing production questions through to conservation and sustainability.
