“Partnering with the Global Forest & Trade Network has positively impacted our business by proving that forest certification works for the benefit of both forests and business.”
LEWIS FIX is Domtar’s Vice President of Brand Management and Sustainable Product Development.
“Our commitment to responsible forestry and trade stems from a deep-rooted company belief in the importance of sustainability, responding to consumer preference for green products. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification allows our customers to follow this commitment back through each link of the supply chain.
Partnering with the Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) has positively impacted our business by proving that forest certification works for the benefit of both forests and business. One of our biggest accomplishments since joining the GFTN is achieving chain-of-custody certification for each of our 14 pulp and paper mills, as well as 40 other locations, enabling us to increase our capacity to provide FSC-certified paper to our customers.
The GFTN’s expertise has been invaluable in developing and measuring mechanisms to improve our operations. We now utilize the GFTN reporting framework to conduct our annual procurement review, resulting in a system that is not merely a suggestion to pursue more certified fiber but instead a tangible call to action that is now embedded into the way we operate.
Our commitment to responsible forestry and trade and our participation in the GFTN has proven to be a compelling differentiator for us in our high-visibility commodity market. We have benefitted from access to new customers and markets as a result of the credibility lent by the GFTN and its diverse membership. This opportunity has also opened our eyes to the benefits of collaboration, encouraging us to look for additional ways to partner with other efforts to advance FSC-certification.”
