Participant Testimonials

“Partnering with the Global Forest & Trade Network has positively impacted our business by proving that forest certification works for the benefit of both forests and business.” -Lewis Fix, Domtar's VP of Sustainable Product Development
As the world’s second largest integrated producer of uncoated freesheet paper, Domtar recognizes the importance of sustainability and is committed to certifying its operations and forest lands in the US and Canada to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Since 2008, Domtar has been working with the GFTN to advance responsible forestry and trade, achieving FSC certification for 14 of its pulp and paper mills, and over 40 locations with chain of custody certification. Given the breadth and impact of the market presence of pulp and paper manufacturers, commitments from companies like Domtar play a crucial role in influencing the sustainability of this critical sector of the global forest products industry.

“At HP we understand our role as leaders in the fight against a number of the world’s greatest environmental challenges. Through our partnership with GFTN, we are working to achieve our goals to ensure the responsible sourcing of paper.”
Engelina Jaspers, VP, Environmental Sustainability, HP
As the world’s largest IT company, a leading supplier of imaging and printing equipment and with the industry’s most extensive supply chain, HP can have an impact on responsible paper sourcing. With global environmental and social responsibility embedded in its DNA, HP introduced an Environmentally Preferable Paper Policy that provides principles for buying, selling or using paper and paper-based product packaging. As a major initiative to its paper policy, HP joined forces with Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) and committed to a goal that 40 percent or more of HP-branded paper sold worldwide will be Forest Stewardship Council certified or have more than 30 percent post-consumer waste content by the end of 2011.

“GFTN delivers an exemplary level of expertise to participating companies, creating opportunities to share information, successes, challenges and best practices on a business to business level.” -Skip Krasny, Kimberly-Clark’s Manager of Sustainable Forestry Programs
Leading the personal products category of the Dow Jones Global Sustainability Index for the fifth consecutive year, Kimberly-Clark Corporation is an important leader in the global marketplace. From both plantations and natural forests, wood fiber is a component in 80% of their products, which affords Kimberly-Clark a prime opportunity to leverage their market position and influence to drive responsible forest management and trade across the globe. With the support of WWF’s Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN), Kimberly-Clark is implementing the company’s global fiber procurement policy and is working to increase the global supply of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified fiber used in making tissue products.
