The Coca-Cola Company Partnership

A transformative partnership to conserve water
Overview
Water is critical to sustaining nature, communities and businesses.

Though water covers 70 percent of the Earth's surface, only one percent is found in rivers, lakes, streams, aquifers and springs, making it readily available for human consumption. Our water use is expected to increase substantially, as is water demand for industry and agriculture. Climate change is predicted to intensify these problems, leading to droughts, rising sea levels and floods. The world's finite water supplies are under threat, endangering human health, species, habitats and economies. Read our water and climate fact sheet (PDF, 143KB).
By 2012, we are uniting our global networks to:
- Conserve some of the world's most important freshwater basins
- Improve water efficiency within the company's operations
- Reduce the company's carbon emissions
- Promote sustainable agricultural practices
Our efforts are focused on iconic freshwater basins in Asia, the Americas, Africa and Europe. The challenges in each of these watersheds vary greatly, from dams that have outgrown their usefulness, to agricultural run-off issues, to loss of habitat. Our partnership work is based on action plans that address specific conservation issues. To learn more about our work in these basins, explore the map below, and read our freshwater basin fact sheet (PDF, 79KB).
