Part 5: Going Home

Before leaving Dillingham, I had breakfast - complete with strips of smoked Bristol Bay salmon - with Ralph Anderson and others from the Bristol Bay Native Association. Ralph is BBNA's CEO and spoke from the heart about protecting Bristol Bay. He talked about the recent birth of his granddaughter and how much he wanted her to experience the Bristol Bay he knew, with bountiful runs of salmon, a healthy fishing industry and abundant wildlife. Ralph eloquently summed up the sentiments of everyone I met.

I left Bristol Bay with a sense of accomplishment. I had seen the place, met the people, and experienced the wildlife. Moving forward, I can speak with first-hand knowledge about the need to pass legislation to protect Bristol Bay when I meet with members of Congress. In the coming months, I also look forward to joining some of the people we met on this trip to Capitol Hill who are making sure that members of Congress hear this message from the mouths of the people who live around Bristol Bay.
