The Galápagos

What’s In Your Backpack?

Irma Larrea
Program Officer, Galápagos

During my trips to the field, I meet a variety of people that work with us or support our different projects in the Galapagos Islands. So, I pack for inter-island trips, technical meetings and local community events.”

A native Ecuadorian, Irma worked with the Galapagos Program for seven years in Ecuador before moving to WWF-US headquarters in Washington, D.C. From helping to fund the Galapagos Marine Reserve Project to coordinating the Galapagos Sustainable Energy Initiative, Irma works to preserve this scientific and natural treasure. We asked her what she brings along when she hits the road.  Check out her essentials:

Irma’s inventory:

  • WWF souvenirs: small panda pins and hats are nice introductory gifts
  • Laptop and a good camera are a must!
  • Marine Life of Galapagos – a guidebook I use to identify different species while travelling
  • Lantern – when you’re off the beaten path it can get really dark!
  • Information about WWF’s work in the Galapagos Islands to share with stakeholders, authorities, and local communities
  • Windbreaker for the rainy days
  • Hat and lots of sunscreen

  • Travel to the Galápagos

The Galápagos Islands, named for the giant tortoises that are among its most noted inhabitants, are like nowhere else in the world.
