Who We Are
Core Values
WWF's core values help describe what makes WWF a unique and special place to work. Results, Integrity, and Respect are core to the way all of us work to achieve WWF's mission and aspirations.
We strive to display each of the core values through daily actions. WWF's core values guide individual employees, shape interactions between all employees and departments, and foster strong relationships with our external partners and supporters.

- seek to be the best in our fields.
- collaborate with other departments to achieve efficient and cutting-edge results.
- consistently evaluate our results and question the status quo.
- take risks to fulfill our conservation aspirations.
Integrity
We are honest, responsible, and accountable within WWF and with others. Our commitment to integrity is reflected in our scientific analyses and policy positions, our financial management, and our relationships with the partners and supporters who make our work possible.
Individually and organizationally, we ...
- are honest and forthright. We approach situations with no hidden agendas.
- ask tough questions.
- make decisions carefully and thoughtfully after considering all sides of the issue.
- stand by our decisions. We do what we say we will do.
- seek ways to conserve resources in our daily work.
Respect
As a global, multicultural organization, we value and expressly recognize the unique skills and perspectives of our employees, supporters, partners, and the communities in which we work.
Individually and organizationally, we ...
- listen to others and consider different viewpoints.
- assume goodwill and competence in others.
- take initiative to understand, appreciate, and foster all types of human diversity.
- take into consideration the circumstance of individual employees.
- keep others informed about issues that affect their productivity and job satisfaction.
- respect the needs and aspirations of employees and our partners in conservation.
Vision
We seek to save a planet, a world of life.
Reconciling the needs of human beings and the needs of others that share the Earth, we seek to practice conservation that is humane in the broadest sense. We seek to instill in people everywhere a discriminating, yet unabashed, reverence for nature and to balance that reverence with a profound belief in human possibilities. From the smallest community to the largest multinational organization, we seek to inspire others who can advance the cause of conservation.
We seek to be the voice for those creatures who have no voice. We speak for their future. We seek to apply the wealth of our talents, knowledge, and passion to making the world wealthier in life, in spirit, and in living wonder of nature.
WWF-U.S. Goal Statement
At its February 14, 2005 meeting, the Board approved the following goal and strategy for the next decade:
Overarching Goal. By 2015, WWF-U.S. and its partners will measurably conserve 15 to 20 of the world's most important ecoregions for the benefits of both the species and people they support, and in the course of doing so, transform markets, policies, and institutions to reduce threats to these places and to the diversity of life on Earth.
Strategy. WWF-U.S. will integrate our programs and activities to do "whatever it takes" to achieve significant, measurable progress in improving the integrity of our ecoregional portfolio for the benefit of the species and people who live there. Our actions will include interventions at many levels: from efforts to save area-sensitive species and create protected areas to influencing national and regional policies to transforming institutions and markets. The specific suite of actions will differ from ecoregion to markets, institutions, and policies to have an impact far beyond these places.
Mission Statement
WWF's mission is the conservation of nature. Using the best available scientific knowledge and advancing that knowledge where we can, we work to preserve the diversity and abundance of life on Earth and the health of ecological systems by
- protecting natural areas and wild populations of plants and animals, including endangered species;
- promoting sustainable approaches to the use of renewable natural resources; and
- promoting more efficient use of resources and energy and the maximum reduction of pollution.
We are committed to reversing the degradation of our planet's natural environment and to building a future in which human needs are met in harmony with nature. We recognize the critical relevance of human numbers, poverty, and consumption patterns to meeting these goals.
