Who We Are

Governance

Bruce Babbitt on Non-profit Governance

As a nonprofit organization, WWF relies on trust. Partners trust us to carry out joint projects; governments and private entities trust our science and ability to create solutions that serve nature and people; and donors trust us to use their funds to advance conservation. To safeguard this critical trust, WWF is committed to best practices in governance, accountability and transparency. This commitment exists at all levels of the organization.

WWF's board and staff is dedicated to ensuring the highest level of ethical conduct. We approach all we do bearing in mind that we are accountable for our actions to our members, the public, and to all living things that depend on the future health of our planet. We strive to follow not only the letter of the law but also to operate in a manner that meets the spirit and intent of the law. We are deeply committed to the independence and objectivity on which our reputation depends.

WWF is committed to these core values in all we do: Results, Integrity and Respect.

Results. Above all, we are committed to achieving conservation results. We work to the highest standards with enthusiasm, flexibility and a keen sense of the urgency of our cause.

Integrity. We are honest, responsible, and accountable within WWF and with others. This commitment to integrity is reflected in our scientific analyses and policy positions, our financial management and our relationships with partners and supporters who make our work possible.

Respect. As a global, multicultural organization, we recognize and value the unique skills and perspectives of our employees, supporters and partners, and the communities in which we work.

WWF believes that governance is not about an annual systems review or complying with minimum standards. Rather, it is a commitment demonstrated in every decision and action, and by every individual in the organization. We strive each day to meet this goal.

WWF Board of Directors
Composed of leaders from the scientific, conservation and business communities, the WWF board of directors exercises overall responsibility for the polices, programs and direction of World Wildlife Fund and provides advice and counsel on a broad range of policy and operational matters. The composition of the board, whose members are elected for three-year terms, is chosen to reflect a broad range of scientific and other expertise, with all members having a strong and demonstrated commitment to nature conservation. Board members observe and annually sign WWF's conflict of interest policy. The current chairman of the board is Bruce Babbitt, former Secretary of the Interior and Gov. of Arizona.
