“We’re looking for the choke point in the global supply chain… where we can make the biggest impact in a given industry with the most efficient use of resources”
About Karen Luz:
It’s not surprising that the girl who wrote away to find out how to join the Peace Corps – at age 10 – is making a positive impact on the planet. As WWF’s deputy director of markets, she focuses on biodiversity conservation in aquaculture, fishing, agriculture, forests and international finance. Her goal is to have entire industries come together - on a global scale - to change their practices and lessen their impact on the environment.
From her Peace Corps work in Paraguay to her tenure as a senior biodiversity specialist for the World Bank, Karen is well suited to the task. In her current role, she leads a team work working to ensure that some of the world’s largest industries address their impacts on biodiversity and on the world’s natural resources at every step in the value chain.
Partners – large and small – play a key role in this effort. Large companies can extend the team’s reach in specific markets, making today’s local solution tomorrow’s global one.
