Annual Report 2008

The pages of the 2008 WWF Annual Report highlight our conservation successes over the past year. From the Amazon to the Arctic, from Southeast Asia to the Congo Basin, WWF and its world-class team of scientists are at work in nearly every corner of the globe identifying threats to the magnificent biodiversity of our planet and working to turn these challenges into opportunities.

The common denominator in everything we do is climate change. This Annual Report features a special section on climate change and our approaches to taming what has become the greatest environmental crisis ever faced. The effects of this global threat are now undeniable and are seen in every area WWF works – perhaps nowhere as vividly as in the Arctic, as you’ll read about in the pages of this report.

Building on our historic successes in forest conservation, we are working to craft an international system that credits emissions reductions from avoided deforestation. We are partnering with leading corporate citizens to shrink their carbon footprints. And we are pioneering initiatives to help species and ecosystems adapt to the changes that have already occurred and are likely irreversible. More than ever before, we need to step lightly on the Earth. Our global demands are exceeding what the planet can sustain, and we must reverse that trend. We hope you’ll be inspired by the possibilities this critical challenge brings and work with us to leave a vibrant natural heritage for future generations.
