Justification of Ecoregion Delineation

This ecoregion is sandwiched between the Kazakh desert plain and the montane Altai coniferous forests in northeast Kazakhstan. The boundaries coincide with the arid, dry and desert steppes of the Altai-Saur-Tarbagatai and North Altai regions according to Pereladova’s (1998) map of Central Asian ecosystems.
