With plastic pollution threatening natural environments worldwide, leading companies recognize that addressing this crisis is crucial for business continuity, resilience, and social license to operate. However, many organizations struggle to translate ambitious commitments into tangible results.
What is ReSource?
ReSource is WWF's activation hub designed specifically for companies with ambitious plastic waste commitments who want to tap into a powerful corporate community of practice and deliver measurable progress. Acting as a bridge between aspiration and impact, ReSource closes the critical "how" gap in the sustainability journey.
The initiative takes companies through their plastic waste lifecycle journey and helps them explore where in the circular materials system they can make the most meaningful impact. Under WWF's leadership, ReSource brings together industry leaders to collectively address our planet's plastic waste crisis.
What will ReSource help your business accomplish?
Through a comprehensive three-pronged approach, ReSource enables member companies to:
Act: Prioritize high-impact activities and partner with like-minded companies to achieve shared goals. This includes eliminating unnecessary plastic, shifting from virgin fossil-based plastic to sustainable inputs, and supporting efforts to double global collection, recycling, and composting of plastic.
Advocate: Collaborate with peers, governments, and civil society to call for policies that enable businesses to meet ambitious plastic pollution reduction goals. ReSource provides connections to advocacy initiatives like WWF’s OneSource Coalition and Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty.
Invest: Identify business-critical investments beyond supply chains, including public-private partnership opportunities to create impact at scale. The program helps translate individual commitments into integrated solutions and multilateral opportunities to drive progress at the local level.
What's unique about ReSource?
What sets ReSource apart is its recognition that solving the global plastic waste crisis isn't simple—it requires fixing a broken materials system with everyone playing their part. While many companies have set large-scale plastic commitments, corporate action remains largely independent. ReSource addresses this by:
- Providing a structured framework for corporate action through its Act-Advocate-Invest approach
- Creating a community of practice where companies can share discoveries and investments across the plastic material lifecycle
- Offering harmonized measurement tools and transparent reporting mechanisms
- Connecting companies with strategic forums, stakeholders, and on-the-ground implementation opportunities
- Supporting companies with strategic advising and thought leadership
As few as 100 companies have the potential to prevent roughly 50 million metric tons of the world’s plastic waste by 2030.
