What is Overshoot Day?

Overshooting doesn’t really seem like a big deal. You overshot a glass of water? clean it up. You kicked a soccer ball and it flew past the net? Try again. You went over on your cellphone data? Buy some more or pay the bill. But what if the thing you were miss-estimating was actually a huge deal? Something that, when repeated, had dire consequences for the planet and future generations? That's what Overshoot Day is.

Overshoot Day, which this year lands on August 8, is the day in which we've used up more natural resources than the planet can replenish in a year. That's a year's worth of resources used up in just over half the time. Every year we allow this to continue, we borrow resources from our children and future generations.
