Derek Vollmer is Director for Waterscapes at WWF-US, supporting a portfolio of freshwater projects around the world with an emphasis on climate adaptation and ecosystem restoration. He is Chief Technical Advisor for Recharge Pakistan, the largest ecosystem-based adaptation project in the country, and he currently advises on project design and monitoring for river basins in Brazil, Colombia, India, and Laos. 

Previously, Dr. Vollmer was Senior Director for Freshwater Science at Conservation International, where he led a team of hydrologists, ecologists and freshwater biologists in developing tools and providing technical support on water resources management in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Derek has published widely on topics including the global water crisis, water resource monitoring, and integrated water resources management. He received his B.A. in Government and International Studies from the University of Notre Dame, his M.Sc. in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins, and his Ph.D. in Spatial Planning from ETH Zurich.
