James Mazzarella oversees the outreach, advocacy and policy coordination team that leads WWF’s efforts to inform and engage U.S. government policy makers and advance the organization’s policy priorities. Before joining WWF, Jim was Senior Director for Global Economics and Development at the White House’s National Security Council and National Economic Council with responsibilities that included foreign assistance, especially development finance, global infrastructure and other poverty reduction programs. While at NSC, he was an architect of the new government agency, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, and was a senior member of the USG’s G20 and G7 teams.
Previously, Jim was Deputy Vice President of Congressional and Public Affairs for the Millennium Challenge Corporation, an independent US foreign assistance agency designed to deliver aid differently, with a mission and model focused on creating economic growth to reduce poverty and reflecting key principles of aid effectiveness. Before joining MCC in 2007, he was Director of New York State’s Office of Federal Affairs, where he served as the governor’s representative to Congress, the White House and Washington-based news media. He also served as Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Susan Molinari from New York and before that her Press Secretary. From 1991 to 1993, he was a senior public relations account executive working with a number of international clients on government affairs and media relations efforts, including Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, as each worked to win its independence from the former Yugoslavia.
