It’s made of leather from a Siamese crocodile.

What we choose to buy and which animals we choose to keep as pets can have a profound impact on wildlife. The demand for exotic pets and wildlife products and artifacts has increased dramatically over the last few years. This demand feeds wildlife crime and devastates populations of elephants, sea turtles, rhinos, and tigers, among other species.

Siamese crocodiles are a critically endangered species native to the Greater Mekong. These freshwater crocodiles can grow to be several hundred pounds and over nine feet long.

They’re one of the world's most endangered reptiles. Estimates vary, but there may be no more than a few hundred left in the wild. In captivity, however, there are hundreds of thousands of Siamese crocodiles raised in farms for their skin and meats.
