Lobby Day 2023

March 6-7, 2023

WWF’s Lobby Day is a two-day event that culminates with one-on-one meetings on Capitol Hill to influence lawmakers on WWF’s conservation priorities. Before taking to the Hill, participants will receive immersive training on the most effective ways of being citizen advocates, and how best to communicate WWF’s top priorities to their elected officials.

How To Prepare for Lobby Day

After you register for Lobby Day and are confirmed to attend, you will work closely with WWF staff to develop talking points and prepare for meetings with congressional offices.

The two-day experience kicks off on Monday, March 6th with an exciting- and in-depth training day. This training at WWF’s headquarters in Washington, DC will cover a review of how Congress functions, offer practice briefing sessions, and get a policy guide specific to the meetings they will embark on the following day. Participants will be grouped with three to five other activists with whom they’ll attend meetings on Lobby Day. A panel of WWF staff will present overall strategy and answer any questions. By the end of the day, activists will feel comfortable and confident about speaking with representatives and sharing WWF’s specific asks of Members of Congress.

On Lobby Day (Tuesday, March 7th), groups will congregate on Capitol Hill for a day of targeted meetings with legislators and their staff at the US Capitol Building where you will make the case for key WWF priorities.

Become a WWF Lobby Day Team Leader

Have you participated in our Lobby Day in the past? Ready to take your participation to the next level? We are looking for volunteers to serve as Team Leaders. As a Team Leader, you will gain valuable leadership experience by helping prepare participants for their legislative appointments, and you’ll act as the main contact between WWF and your group on Lobby Day.

Team Leads are responsible for:

  • Knowing background and relevant positions of assigned legislators (provided by WWF)
  • Getting your group from meeting to meeting on the Hill
  • Introducing your group as a WWF delegation
  • Steering the general discussion of the meeting and sending a follow up email to the Member of Congress or staff with the “leave behind” materials
  • Reporting back on out how the meetings went after Lobby Day

Team Leads are NOT responsible for recruiting teams and are NOT required to do all the talking. The discussion should be constituent-driven, with different people speaking to various talking points.

Interested in being a Team Lead? Email: [email protected] today and let us know.
