What to Expect: To fully enjoy this tour, WWF travelers should be fit, in good health and able to participate in moderate activities. You should be a good swimmer and snorkeler with the ability to stay in the water for an hour or more at a time. You also need to be able to pull yourself up from the water and into a small boat or Zodiac landing craft via a ladder. Our time with whale sharks in the Bay of Donsol requires strong swimming in moderately swift currents and quick disembarkation into the water from small motor boats. Water currents during the remainder of the trip tend to be much more gentle. Nature walks could be one or more miles.
Air temperatures are generally in the mid 80s Fahrenheit, with breezes that keep the humidity feeling low to moderate; rain is always possible. Water temperatures at Donsol are usually in the upper 70s (wet suit rentals are available); Palawan waters are warmer, generally in the low 80s.
Travel will be by small aircraft, motor boat, ferry and vans; some roads are very winding. Information about luggage weight restrictions will be sent to registrants. Accommodations are at comfortable, well-appointed resorts and Western-style hotels.
While we will do everything possible to adhere to this itinerary, occasional weather conditions and/or local events may necessitate deviations.
The snorkeling destinations in this itinerary were selected based on professional assessments of the reefs in June 2014. Please be aware that climatic events, such as coral bleaching, may occur at any time and could adversely affect the reefs. Tour organizers will continue to monitor conditions and provide timely updates to registrants when relevant.
Trip Insurance: We suggest that travelers protect themselves by purchasing trip insurance; it is not required for this tour but highly recommended. You can purchase insurance at any point before your departure, but there may be a benefit to purchasing it now. For instance, policies usually exclude coverage for preexisting medical conditions, but this exclusion is frequently waived if you purchase your insurance within two weeks of your booking date.
