In 2016, WWF will embark on an ambitious new public engagement campaign called Send Me Home. This effort will engage millions of people in supporting an unprecedented American species restoration effort across the Northern Great Plains—a return home for the American bison.

Working closely with tribal leaders, government officials and other stakeholders in South Dakota and Montana, our vision is to return five herds of at least 1,000 bison home to tribal lands across the Northern Great Plains. Once home, these herds will be protected by the very tribes whose ancestors once lived alongside their ancestors. Repopulating the native grasslands with bison will contribute to biodiversity in the region and provide new economic and natural resources to Native American communities.
