There are more than 3,000 species of nudibranch. Many are very colorful because of the vibrant food they eat, such as anemones and corals. They can be found in oceans around the world, but the majority live in shallow, tropical waters. Also known as sea slugs, nudibranchs are mollusks that lack a shell, like octopuses and cuttlefish. Their heads have a pair of tentacles sensitive to touch, smell and taste. Nudibranchs are hermaphrodites—they have male and female sexual organs, so they are able to reproduce with any other mature member of their species.
