WWF at UNGA and Climate Week 2024

Events Calendar

As we approach the halfway point of the “decisive decade” for climate and nature, WWF is focused on driving progress and turning words into action. In recent years, world leaders made ambitious and unprecedented commitments in Paris and Montreal to address the dual crises of climate change and nature loss. Yet commitments mean nothing without action and finance. The UN General Assembly and Climate Week in New York present vital moments for leaders to drive attention to addressing the climate crisis and set the stage for ambitious and productive work at CBD COP16 and UNFCCC COP29 later this year.

To deliver on the Global Biodiversity Framework's conservation targets, as well as the adaptation and mitigation goals of the Paris Agreement, we need new and innovative financial tools that catalyze funding at scale. This year in New York, WWF's activities and events will drive enthusiasm and investment toward these global goals. We are focused on decarbonizing the energy sector, building community resilience to climate impacts, and driving finance—public and private, domestic and international—towards nature-based solutions while delivering for nature, people, and climate.

All times and locations are local to New York. Events listed chronologically. Event registration and livestream access listed where available.

The Importance of Saving Grasslands to Combat Climate Change

The Nest Climate Campus (Javits Center)
Livestream Accessible

Nature is the world’s best defense against climate change, and grassland conservation is leading that fight in the United States. As a carbon sink, grasslands provide critical resilience in the face of climate change, including drought, heat and wildfire. Grazing by ruminant species like cattle, bison, and sheep plays a crucial role in managing plant diversity, soil health, and nutrient cycling, which enhances the carbon sequestration capacity of grasslands. WWF and our partners are conserving American grasslands and creating benefits for climate, nature, and people, all while supporting corporate climate and sustainability goals. During this panel event, learn from WWF’s Ranch Systems and Viability Planning (RSVP) Program and Private Sector Engagement teams about grasslands and the importance of this ecosystem, the integration with business sustainability targets, and impacts on the ground.
