WWF: Presidential Leadership Now Needed to End Black Market Fishing

In response to today’s release of the recommendations from the Presidential Task Force on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and Seafood Fraud, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from Michele Kuruc, vice president of marine policy:

“The recommendations open the door to the comprehensive solution needed to end illegal fishing, but now the President needs to walk through it. President Obama must turn these recommendations into decisive policy and regulations to ensure all seafood sold in the US is traceable to legal sources.

“We need leadership from the highest levels of government to ensure Americans aren’t consuming stolen seafood and that honest fishers are treated fairly. Our planet’s oceans and the sustainable future of our fisheries depend on it.”
