WWF Statement on Bristol Bay Filings

In response to the filings against the Environmental Protection Agency by Bristol Bay organizations regarding Pebble Mine, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from Margaret Williams, managing director of WWF’s US Arctic program:

“The vast majority of Bristol Bay’s communities have long opposed the development of Pebble Mine, which threatens the health of one of the planet’s last salmon strongholds, the iconic wildlife including beluga whales, brown bears, moose, and bald eagles who call it home, and the thousands of Alaskans whose livelihoods and cultures are tied to the health of the Bay.

"Bristol Bay is an irreplaceable ecosystem. We need a fair and rigorous process, and one that regards critically important science, to make an informed and proper decision.”
