WWF Statement on Circumpolar Action Plan for Polar Bears

In response to today’s commitment by the five polar bear range states to an international conservation plan for polar bears, World Wildlife Fund issued the following statement from Margaret Williams, managing director for US Arctic programs:

“Coming on the heels of President Obama’s historic visit to the Arctic, this is another reminder of the need for urgent climate action.

“Today’s multinational plan goes well beyond just protecting polar bears – by addressing the larger threats facing the Arctic, it will have long-term benefits for the entire region. Now we need this week’s commitments to translate into action.”
