In response to today’s announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Agency stating the nation’s first food waste reduction goals, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released the following statement from Pete Pearson, director of Food Waste:
"In the U.S., food production uses a significant portion of our water, land and energy. When we waste food, we squander these precious resources. WWF is working with farmers, businesses, NGOs, policymakers and others to build a more efficient and less wasteful global food system. Eliminating food waste requires that we begin to measure with greater precision where it is wasted along the supply chain and find preventative solutions. We commend the USDA and EPA for setting the nation’s first-ever food waste reduction goals and we look forward to working with them and other stakeholders to achieve them."
