In response to significant foreign assistance funding reductions proposed in the President's FY2019 budget request, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released the following statement from Todd Shelton, vice president of U.S. government relations:
“Congress has long provided strong bipartisan support for U.S. foreign assistance programs including those that fund international conservation efforts. While representing less than one percent of the federal budget, these programs are critical to promoting global health, conserving nature, and ensuring our own security and prosperity.
“Supporting U.S. foreign assistance is smart domestic policy. We encourage Congress to continue these important investments, which bolster America’s global leadership and align with our long-held humanitarian and conservation values.”
