WWF Statement On the NEPA Rollback

Today, the Trump administration formally released its draft rule rolling back the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Signed into law by President Nixon after passing Congress with near unanimous support, NEPA has been a bedrock of American law for 40 years, ensuring development projects take the environment into account and providing the public a voice in decisions impacting their communities. In response to today’s announcement, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from Will Gartshore, WWF Director, Government Affairs & Advocacy:

“Today, the administration is proposing to silence the voices of Americans and sideline scientific information to make it easier to fast-track projects that threaten our air, water, and wildlife. With our communities, climate, and natural resources facing unprecedented challenges, we need more information and public participation, not less. At a time when we need to be looking harder at how today’s decisions will impact tomorrow’s world, this proposal is a huge step backwards.”
