WWF: US-Russia Agreement Important Sign of Progress to End Illegal Fishing

In response to the signing of a bilateral agreement by the United States and Russia to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from Michele Kuruc, Vice President for Ocean Policy:

“This is a true sign of progress that the United States and Russia have made a commitment to work together to fight illegal fishing and help ensure the health of our shared fish stocks.

“Given the history of problems in north Pacific fisheries and the seafood trade challenges between the two countries, this agreement is significant.

“We hope that through this agreement we will see more effective collaboration on detecting illegal fishing, cooperative investigations, better data and information sharing when needed.”
