Young Disney Stars Play for World Wildlife Fund

Donations will support wildlife conservation

WASHINGTON, DC, June 23, 2011 –Disney Channel and Disney XD stars from across the globe have teamed up to participate in the “Disney Friends for Change Games” to raise money for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and other participating charities, and to encourage kids to help the planet and their communities.

Premiering June 24 on Disney Channel and June 27 on Disney XD, the “Disney Friends for Change Games,” a series of fun, physical challenges inspired by everyday “green” acts, engages four teams that will play on behalf of global charities: Fauna and Flora International, Ocean Conservancy, UNICEF, and WWF.

WWF is “Team Red,” and includes stars:

  • Captain: Mitchel Musso ("Pair of Kings")
  • Jake T. Austin ("Wizards of Waverly Place")
  • Doug Brochu ("So Random")
  • Kelsey Chow ("Pair of Kings")
  • Davis Cleveland ("Shake It Up")
  • Dean Delannoit (Disney Channel Holland and Belgium)
  • Carlon Jeffrey ("A.N.T. Farm")
  • Zendaya ("Shake It Up").

As part of the "Disney Friends for Change Games," Disney will make a $125,000 donation to each charity and the winning team's charity will receive an additional $100,000.  Funds will help support WWF conservation efforts and help secure a future in which people live in harmony with nature.

“Places like the Northern Great Plains are part of our American heritage and are special for the people who live there and far beyond. These wide-open spaces and epic grandeur reflect the American spirit of freedom, and are home for much of our unique and endangered wildlife.  A vote for Team Red will help us work together to protect the people, species, and prairies of this magical place and other important places and species across the globe,” said WWF’s Martha Kauffman, managing director of the Northern Great Plains program.

WWF works in many vital places to preserve and protect critical habitats and species that live in them.  For example, the Northern Great Plains is home to hundreds of birds, butterflies, and more than 90 mammals, like the bison, pronghorn, and black-footed ferret, one of the most endangered mammals in North America.  People living on the prairie can trace their roots back generations; centuries even for Native Americans.  In the Northern Great Plains, we have a fleeting opportunity to conserve and strengthen both America’s natural and cultural heritage.
