Sustainable Land Management in the Churia Range, Nepal

churia landscape

This medium-sized GEF project addresses land degradation and sustainable land management issues in the Churia Range of southern Nepal. The forests in these regions are essential to community livelihoods and global biodiversity, serving as habitat for species such as Asian elephants, greater one-horned rhinos and Bengal tigers. To protect the area’s valuable resources, this GEF project works closely with local community groups to build capacity for better land and forest management and apply new technologies that will reduce the resource pressures. While the project is still under way, it has already demonstrated some transformational results by bringing together four technical ministries for the first time to address these issues.
