Ecuadorian President Correa Approves Migration Regulation in the Galapagos Islands

On August 21, 2007, the President of Ecuador approved a Migration Regulation to control human migration to the Galapagos Islands. Since 2004, the WWF Galapagos Program has been working towards the approval of the regulation. Human migration is considered one of the major threats for the conservation of the Galapagos Islands because it places increased pressure on the natural resources. During the past decade, the population growth has reached 6% annually. WWF will continue to focus our efforts on building the capacity of the local institution charged with implementing the Migration Regulation, the Galapagos National Institute (INGALA).
