Love It or Lose It PSA: Can We Love More?

Love for nature can be expressed in many ways. WWF’s newest PSA in our Love It or Lose It campaign uses stunning animation and lyrical narration to take us on a journey across the world’s spectacular natural biomes to show how everything in nature is connected, the enormity of the threats facing nature, and of the power we all have inside us to prevent it from being lost.

Inspired by Valentine's Day, we asked our supporters to explore poetry to express admiration for nature and wildlife. Read a selection of those poems below.

Close your eyes and feel the crisp, cool air

Listen as the wind rustles the leaves

Take a moment to consider your blessings

Look around and truly take note

Every color, smell and sound

The mountains are calling

How will you answer?

Like a tree

That faces the sun and braces the wind, too

Bending and swaying without snapping in two

Be determined but not unrelenting in whatever you do

Like a flower

That offers its scent voluntarily to all

Ever so delicate yet colorful and standing tall

Be generous, but don't sacrifice yourself

Like the rain

That pours from the sky like a blessing in disguise

To cleanse, nurture virtue, and wash away vice

Be wise in your dealings with the good and the bad

Like the moon

That lights up the night sky with a calming glow

To chase away nightmares and make dreams glow

Be self-contained, but contribute to the greater good

Like the lotus

That rises proudly above the filthy mud

And unfolds to glory a pure, sacred bud

Be aware of your surroundings but untained by them

Like a mountain

That cares not for conquerors of its peak

And rises above the rest without crushing the weak

Be confident, but don't have confidence in all

Like a bird

That sings with abandon

And spreads its wings to explore

Knowing when to glide, to rest, to plummet or to soar

Be mindful of your goals and how to reach them

Like a cloud

That wanders the heavens in all shapes and sizes

To store water and bring shade when the heat rises

Be receptive and flexible to whatever life brings

Like a fish

That knows its rightful place is deep down

To rule evolution soundlessly, without a crown

Be true to your nature, but swim with the current

Like a stone

That some see as precious and some as dirt

Mindnig its own business and knowing its worth

Be who you are, whatever others may say

My heart pounds like the hooves of stampeding wildebeast running for their lives.

My voice sings like the wood thrush high up in the trees.

My feelings rise and fall with the tides.

Some thundering in like a powerful storm,

Others like a calm, serene bay.

I am artistic like a spider weaving its great web, and graceful like a honeybee dancing to signal its colony.

My beauty is vast and ever-changing,

Because I am nature,

And nature is me.

I've been in the background of so many lock-screens

The number of photos is entirely lost on me.

It's not that I beg to be seen

In fact, a lot of you can't get enough of me.

I wave and wave and witness smiles,

The little ones and the big ones come around once in a while.

But my circles turn and my power yearns to be listened to a bit more deeply.

Because ever day they come to play, yet they still take me for granted.

I give them all the gifts I have under one condition:

Leave enough for me to save and carry on this tradition.

But as I wave, and give, and grant,

They all look past, ignoring my tired rant.

Picture. Post. Feast. Boast

Wave. Wave. Wave.

I warn and watch them try not to sink,

Even attempt to keep them afloat.

But they look at me and all they see

Is my still wave in the background of their post.

I love earth

I love the way the sun shines bright, so early in the day

I love the way wind tickles my face when I am outside to play

I love the sandy ocean floor,

I love the molten lava core

I hate that we destroyed you,

I hate what we did,

I want to fix the wrongs of the past

But I am only just a kid.

In emerald fields where sunlight spills,

A symphony of nature thrills.

Each creature plays a vital part,

A beating heart within the art.

The soaring hawk, a watchful eye,

The rustling leaves, a lullaby.

The buzzing bee, a pollen kiss,

The buzzing bee, a pollen kiss,

From mountain peaks to ocean's spray,

A masterpiece in every way.

But shadows fall, a mournful sound,

For greed and haste, with blindest stride,

Leave scars that nature can't hide.

The silent trees, the empty skies,

A chilling truth before our eyes.

Yet hope remains, a seed to sow,

For love of life can help it grow.

To mend the wounds, the damage done,

Protect the wild, become as one.

For every branch, for every wing,

A song of thanks and joy we sing.

Let empathy, our compass be,

For nature's heart beats strong in thee.

So stand with me, and raise your voice,

For every creature, make a choice.

to be the guardians, kind and true,

For nature's song, for me, for you.

I remember when the birds sung

So quiet and sweet

Like flowers in the breeze

The songs hung in the air

Like lanterns and lights

They don't sing in the city anymore

Their nest replaced by wires

But I remember

When the birds sung

The geese used to fly south for the winter

a honking traffic jam slipstreaming overhead in V-formation

a peloton guided by an inner compass.

Craning my neck skyward,

I listened to the seasonal siren of change.

The gaggle now settles here for the winter.

Seems I'm no longer a flyover,

but a destination, a port.

Snow on the lawn that once shimmered in the sunlight has become a flotilla

of gray feathers adrift on a sea of grass, an avian navy commandeering the yard.

Black and white heads bob, gobbling greenery, except for one's

tall and alert: the captain of the watch.

My small harbor is warm and peaceful,

but for two golden retrievers staring from the window.

The furry sentinels

gently whine, seized by ancestral urges.

The local golf course, inundated

with the cackling interlopers, compensates canines to play

an endless game of tag they cannot win.

I let slip y golden dogs of war, who cry havoc.

The armada takes flight, sailing into the blue.

It is oddly comforting that the pattern will repeat tomorrow and again,

but I know at some point the fleet will opt to dock further north,

abandoing my port to loneliness.

I am from that place where the river flows

I am from that place where you hear the sun god praise the sun at every week's end

I am from that place where the market sells art every month

I am from that place where everyone you see is someone you know

I am from that place where music is art, and art is life

I am from that place where you can sing and dance all day, carefree and be happy

I am from that place.

Nature my Love, without you my life would be dull and lifeless.

I need your warm embrace, your uplifting manner, your encouragement to persevere.

I want to see you, feel you, breathe you.

You are my light, my hope, my future, my everything.

Without you - I am nothing.

Because you are me, and I am you.

Now and Forever.

I wish to see the world through your eyes

I wish to embrace you without the line between us

I wish to protect you better than what we failed to realize you are perfection without even trying

You effortlessly make me want better for this world

There's nothing more beautiful than the purity you offer our experience

Living in harmony

Side-by-side

It's time for your needs to be met more than mine

I wish for the world to see your purity

All of your grace

All your wild has opened my eyes

Thank you for helping me see what pure really can be.

When the blue marble rolls along on its own with no interferences and no obstacles, it stays in motion

majestically peaceful among the yin and the yang within its circular comfort of life.

When the blue marble rolls along on its own with no disturbances and no intrusions, The complexity is

simplistic among the floral and the plain within its spherical paradise of plenty.

When the blue marble rolls along on its own with no interruptions and no irritations, utopia overtakes

When the blue marble rolls along on its own with no interruptions and no irritations, utopia overtakes

chaotic entropy among the terrestrial and the terrain within its round perfection of a home.

Earth, our nurturing home, under wide sky,

Gives us all we need, as time passes by.

But our actions bring change, make it hard to rely,

On its stability, as temperatures fly high.

Let's unite today, in purpose clear,

To repair the damage, to hold Earth dear.

With every step forward, let's persevere,

On this day of triumph, let's make a vow,

To cherish Earth always, to act now.

With each mindful choice, let's endow,

A sustainable legacy, to honor and avow.

A glimpse of sinuous motion caught me, the fox running so quickly she was more of an impression than

an image.

Nose to the ground, bushy tail streaming back, gray fur luxurious in the winter sun.

On its stability, as temperatures fly high.

Let's unite today, in purpose clear,

To repair the damage, to hold Earth dear.

With every step forward, let's persevere,

On this day of triumph, let's make a vow,

To cherish Earth always, to act now.

With each mindful choice, let's endow,

A sustainable legacy, to honor and avow.
