WWF helps make salmon farming more responsible in Chile

Chile’s spectacular coastline is home to numerous species of whales, dolphins, sea lions, and birds. Its pristine waters also support one of the largest farmed salmon industries in the world.

Aquaculture, or fish farming, may help alleviate pressure on wild fisheries, but farming can pose threats to delicately-balanced surrounding environments if operations are not managed responsibly.

The good news is that WWF is working with farms like the one featured here to implement best practices so seafood can be farmed safer and with less impact on the environment and on local communities and workers.

If we work together, it is possible to produce more nutritious salmon to feed people and preserve the marine environment.
