Nasser Olwero
Senior Director of Information Science, Global Science
Nasser works at the intersection of conservation science and technology at WWF, where he leads Enterprise Geospatial work. His focus is organizing and presenting conservation data across its full lifecycle—acquisition, storage, processing, and presentation—so the information needed to plan conservation work and track its progress and impact is accessible.
He oversees data systems and platforms that support conservation programs, including Elinor and internal geospatial data systems, and works to connect geospatial and non-geospatial information. He also convenes WWF-Compass, a community of GIS and data practitioners across the WWF Network.
Much of his work involves translating between science and technology, turning conservation questions into technical requirements, and technical possibilities into something science and conservation teams can use. He works closely with geospatial infrastructure and software engineers and prototypes directly, testing ideas before they are built. Nasser is particularly interested in how AI can make conservation data and mapping more accessible, and in applying it to conservation.
