Winnie Lam is the Energy Global Client Lead at Google Cloud. She is responsible for product offerings, go-to-market strategy, and relationships with strategic customers in the Power sector. She helps companies transform their businesses through big data analytics, artificial intelligence and Cloud computing. Prior to her current role, she led the Environmental Sustainability team for Google’s data centers, responsible for initiatives on energy efficiency, emergency power generation, water conservation, and waste management. Since joining Google in 2004, she also held leadership positions in Engineering and Product Management, and received several Google Executive Management and Founder’s Awards for her achievements. As a champion for animals, Winnie championed the ban of elephant ivory being sold through Google, since elephants are poached for their ivory tusks. Winnie partnered with WWF to form the Global Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online, uniting tech companies to end the sale of illegal wildlife products online. She has been running an annual fundraiser since 2013, raising millions of dollars in donations from Google employees for World Wildlife Fund, Humane Society Silicon Valley, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and other charities. Winnie is passionate about using technology to solve conservation challenges. She served on the Digital Advisory Council at The Nature Conservancy, and the Council at the Wildlife Conservation Society. Winnie received her B.Sc. in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada. She will complete her M.Sc. in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University in 2019.
