As Google's Captain of Earthly Elements, Winnie manages the environmental sustainability team for Google’s data centers, whose scope spans across the four classical elements: Earth (carbon offsets, zero waste to landfill); Water (water conservation); Air (air quality); and Fire (energy efficiency, backup power generation). As a champion for animals, Winnie championed the ban of elephant ivory products being sold through Google, since elephants are poached for their ivory tusks. For three years, she recruited teams of Google employee volunteers to do sea turtle population surveys in Belize, with scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Society. She has been running an annual holiday fundraiser since 2013, raising millions of dollars in donations from Google employees to the World Wildlife Fund, Humane Society Silicon Valley, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and many other charities. Winnie is passionate about using technology to solve conservation challenges. She served on the Digital Advisory Council at The Nature Conservancy, and the Council at the Wildlife Conservation Society.
