This final report provides a summary of the contributions made by the United States Agency for International Development-funded Targeting Natural Resource Corruption (TNRC) project. The project worked from 2018 – 2024 and focused on improving biodiversity outcomes by equipping conservation and natural resource management practitioners to assess and address the threats posed by corruption to wildlife, fisheries, and forests. This objective was achieved through three strategic approaches: 1) harnessing existing knowledge and generating new evidence about the impact of corruption and effective programming responses; 2) communicating and networking to disseminate that information and demonstrate practical application, building experience, and generating new learning opportunities; and 3) supporting practical application through pilot projects in six countries and select initiatives to broaden practitioner experience. Additionally, the project worked on institutionalizing anti-corruption within partner organizations to leave a legacy of concrete change.

The project was led by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and implemented by a consortium of leading conservation and anti-corruption organizations, including TRAFFIC; the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre at the Chr. Michelson Institute (U4); the Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption Center (TraCCC) at George Mason University; and in collaboration with the Basel Institute on Governance.

There are over 400 known endangered marine species linked to human seafood consumption.  As part of its continuous efforts to mitigate the effects of the global food system, WWF has developed a user-friendly and practical guide identifying the main at-risk aquatic creatures found in seafood supply chains. This resource aims at assisting companies, buyers, chefs, and consumers at large in making informed decisions while sourcing seafood. The Seafood Guide on Endangered Species was developed by WWF US in collaboration with marine experts across the global WWF Network.

WWF's Living Blue Planet Report takes a deep look at the health of our oceans and the impact of human activity on marine life. Data on marine ecosystems and human impacts upon them is limited, reflecting the lack of attention the ocean has received to date. Nevertheless, the trends shown here present a compelling case for action to restore our ocean to health.

A new WWF commissioned analysis shows there is a strong economic case for protecting ocean assets through expanding Marine Protected Areas globally. The report finds that increased protection of critical habitats could result in net benefits of between US $490 billion and US $920 billion accruing over the period 2015-2050.

WWF investigated the trade flow of illegal and legal crab harvested from Russian waters throughout the North Pacific to better understand the likelihood of US importation of illegally harvested Russian crab, as well as conservation concerns associated with overharvest of crab from Russian waters.
