This project will work with communities and government to propose a Water Resource Protected Area in the headwaters, improve small farmers’ agricultural practices and designate community forests to reduce land degradation and biodiversity loss in the Luangwa headwaters, protecting its water resources, biodiversity and associated livelihoods.
The five-year global GEF project led by Mirova in collaboration with the Global Mechanism of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and other partners will support the Technical Assistance Facility to provide project preparedness and technical assistance services to build a strong portfolio of transformative projects for the UNCCD Land Degradation Neutrality Fund (LDNF).
Under the Amazon Sustainable Landscape Impact Program (GEF 7), Guyana’s Child Project will aim at strengthening and improving landscape connectivity through the establishment of conservation areas (800,000 ha) and the management of productive areas (400,000 ha) within the eastern half of central Guyana.
The project has 3 key components: 1) Data clearinghouse; 2) Facilitating links between funders, and communities and the nature-based tourism sector; and 3) Monitoring and evaluation and Knowledge Management.
